What to wear for class...
Dressing comfortably is the key, as you want to be able to move freely when you are learning to dance.  When you are ready to purchase some dance costumes to wear to class, or for performing in, these will be a staple of your dance wardrobe.

Pictured above - this is our typical dance class wear.  Comfy trousers or a skirt, hip belt (Tenderfoot's can borrow one until they want to purchase their own), comfy t-shirt, cotton bodysuit, vest top, tie front top or a 'proper' belly dance top (choli) if you prefer.  The important thing is to feel comfortable for class.  We dance barefoot - but flexible dance shoes such as ballet shoes or Chinese 'Tai Chi' slippers are also ideal.

Our week 5 of a term class though, is our 'Dress-up' class - where we embrace lots of sparkly 'anythings' from jewellery, to decorative hair flowers, flowing satin skirts, beaded tops, velvet dresses or luxurious harem pants in decadent prints.  Dressing up is part of the fun, and Leanne (troupe director and class teacher) and troupe dancers will bring in items to sell in class from time to time, so your belly dance clothing can begin with great items at a fraction of their original cost!

HIPSCARF / COIN BELT
Although a coined or beaded belt is not traditional, it has become an iconic part of a dancers wardrobe today.  The coins used to be a symbol of how good a dancer was, as they would sew real coins to their clothing.
